Hi @helpful-application-7107 Missed the webinar yesterday, but just watched the replay and gained a better understanding of fact tables. I've setup metrics through metrics since I didn't grasp how I could make it work using fact tables. The reason is because we don't have the structure of Dataset > Order (table) > purchases, qty etc (columns) that you use as an example in your docs. Our structure is Dataset > GA4 property (table) > event_name (column) > The event name (string). I tried now to add event_name as a column and the actual events as filters and that works. However this is not how you've intended it to work and therefore i'm wondering what your advise is to me. Just use metrics or do the workaround with fact tables. I'm extra concerned about this since you've said that you'll focus on fact tables moving forward and using metrics will be legacy. We are still in the implementation phase, so I could redo all the metrics using filters in fact tables, but want to be sure before doing a bunch of extra work 😅

Hey! Sorry I missed this. We're working on better guidance here. You're right that going forward creating one fact table for your events is a reasonable approach. One thing you should know is that you don't ned to create a ton of filters to use fact metrics. Instead, you can edit your
event_name
Column to
Prompt all metrics to filter on this column
, like so
I'm extra concerned about this since you've said that you'll focus on fact tables moving forward and using metrics will be legacy.
Sorry to scare you like that, we'd build a migration at some point if we ever fully deprecated them at some point, but Fact Tables are our future for a bunch of reasons so paying the cost now may be worth it. Feel free to provide feedback about the UX in this thread.

Thanks for highlighting the prompt all metrics.. feature! That was a lifesaver. Directly got 95% of the metrics I was going to create as recommended metrics. I think in general you could clarify more in your documentation when it comes to GA4/BigQuery/GrowthBook integration. I don't have the data you have on your users, but reading older questions it feels like many people have the same issues revolving that. I'm more than happy to help you out if you need eyes from the outside. Really appreciate your answer!

Thanks, yeah we know it's a source of friction for a lot of users and are working on both better documentation as well as more automated metric creation.
